Dear Friend of Oklahoma’s Foster Children,
Last Christmas the thoughtfulness and generosity of many citizens and organizations made Christmas a brighter time for children who are under the jurisdiction of the Department of Human Services. Once again, it is time to consider the Christmas wishes of children who have been removed from their home because of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
Last year we were able to provide Christmas gifts for approximately 3,500 foster children. The needs in Oklahoma County continue to grow each year. With your help as a “Holiday Hero,” we will bring happiness to even more children this year.
There are many ways to sponsor these children: filling children’s wish lists, making a financial donation, or sponsoring a toy drive for the Santa Shop. The Santa Shop is a collection of gifts given to children who were removed from their homes in October through December. Whichever method works best for you, your family or organization will be greatly appreciated.
The children’s wish list will have their first name, age, race and two wishes. The wishes are supposed to be $25 or less, but as with all children they sometimes have big dreams. We do not expect donors to purchase these expensive items and less costly replacements are also treasured.
Any funds that remain after Christmas will be used the following year to aid children in school activities, camps, birthdays and many other projects.
Please consider being a “Holiday Hero” for Oklahoma’s foster children. We need gifts for all ages. If you, your business, church, or organization can help make Christmas wishes come true, please call Natalie Biddinger at 767-2631 also contact by e-mail at Natalie.biddinger@okdhs.org.
