Volunteers, ages 13 and up, are needed to help beautify the Anacostia River by collecting floating debris and trash. Some volunteers will be transported down river by boat. Others will clean-up the area near the park. Volunteers who are ages 16 and over may have the option to use a canoe to clean the river. Volunteers are required to wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and a life vest (provided). Volunteers are encouraged to wear long pants and to bring a change of clothes and shoes. Bring a reusable water bottle. We suggest bringing plastic kitchen gloves that go past your wrist. We will provide latex gloves. Please have a way to secure your keys and phone. Wet bags are suggested.River Clean-ups are 9:00 am - 12:30 pm on the following 2016 dates: May 28, June 26, July 30, August 27, September 4 and October 8.This volunteer opportunity is eligible for Prince George's County Public Schools student service learning hours.This volunteer opportunity is appropriate for Girl Scout Silver Trefoil Award government or green hours.

The Anacostia Watershed Society, in partnership with the Department of Parks and Recreation Bladensburg Waterfront Park, is hosting a special Earth Day Anacostia River Clean-up on Saturday, April 23, 2016, 8:30 am - noon.
